Imprest is a collectable and attractive range of vases and pots in 4 patterns, with black-on-honey patterns (or more rarely, black-on-green). The range appears fairly regularly on the market, although it is not abundant. As with many Hornsea ranges, the prices of the large, tall vases (not shown) are beginning to get out of reach of the average collector.

Cactus pot Mould number 996. This pattern is square and circles. This small piece is in mint condition, apart from a few fine scratches on the black area. See Heckford (1998) p. 139. I use the term 'cactus pot' for any small plant pot; I don't know if there is any real distinction, though. Value: £5-15 |

John Clappison screen printed preserve pots (1967-76) The designs are also seen on mugs and cruets. The wooden lids, sometimes missing, may have a notch for a spoon, and a rubber seal; or the lid may be un-notched with no seal. I have seen them in two sizes. The larger one is 3 inches in diameter, the smaller is 2 5/8 inches. Two backstamps are seen: they may be printed Hornsea 1974 underneath, with date code in dots; or they may have HORNSEA ENGLAND is impressed underneath.

Raindrop (1968-70) Mint condition. As with many of these pots, there are remnants underglaze on the back of a footprint, presumably where the handle would have been attached to make a mug (see photo, bottom left). Value: £5 |

Geometric As above, but with brown detailing, and the number R59 in pencil under the glaze. There is a small split on the rim which appears to have been partly glazed over; it is not a re-glued chip. Value: £15-20. |

Owls Dated 1972 on the backstamp. The owl on the far left of the series has both eyes shut. Also seen with the more common yellow detailing instead of this turquoise variant. Value: £10-15 |
