Dutch Liberation mosaic tile Theme: Miscellaneous This rare tile has pieces fitted together to imitate a mosaic, and overglaze decoration with an orange tree, the flags of Orange and The Netherlands, and the Dutch Royal Coat of Arms surmounting a broken, burning swastika. Value: £ 50-100 |

George and the Dragon tile (c. 1950s) Theme: Westraven The designer was J. J. van der Sluys whose impressed pseudonym, Jac Lovades, can be seen in the photo. He designed for Westraven from 1946-1960, so the tile must date from somewhere in this period. Presumably made for sale in England (St. George is their patron Saint), as it is marked MADE IN HOLLAND. Westraven made a range of exceptionally beautiful, Picasso-like designs on tiles in the 1950s. Minute flake round the hole where the string is hung. Couple of burst bubbles on the lower edge. Value: £ 70-100 |
